Princesses and Papas Make Memories!
Princess and Papa Dance

Young Princesses and their Papas entered through the doors of Belair Elementary on March 15, 2010, to attend the Princess and Papa Dance sponsored by the Jefferson City Public Schools Foundation.

The Foundation sponsors several fundraising events a year. The proceeds from these events help sponsor school initiative and individual teaching grants. This is the first Princess and Papa Dance, and because of its success, the Foundation will likely hold others in the district. Over $11,000 was awarded to four schools this year with the School Initiative Grant program. Lewis and Clark Middle School, Callaway Hills Elementary School, Thorpe Gordon Elementary School and Cedar Hill Elementary School were the recipients of Foundation funds. The 2010 Teacher grants will be awarded in the month of April.

Girls and their Papas (fathers or, in some cases grandfathers or special friends) posed for a photo upon arrival. Several activity stations were set up for the first hour. The first station was making princess photo frames. A writing station was next where Princesses could write a special message to their Papas and the Papas write an endearing message to their Princesses. These messages were posted on the front of the stage used as a message board during the afternoon activities.

The third station, Papas could paint the nails of the beautiful small hands of their Princess. The princess chose the color or colors while Papa carefully painted their tiny nails. Several princesses also painted the nails of their Papas. Many fathers, grandfathers, friends and even a brother held up their newly red-red, hot-pink, purple and even silver nails to show the other men in the group. The Papas were very proud of the handiwork of their young princesses.

The second hour was filled with music and dancing. Several fun songs such as hokie-pokie, the duck dance and even the electric slide was performed. A dance line was formed and all princess and papas were shuffling across the gym floor in a dance line making memories. The afternoon concluded with refreshments, smiles and laughter.

The Foundation was established to help support the many needs of schools and classrooms. Supplies, equipment, literacy materials and professional development opportunities are funded by the Foundation that is not part of the general operating budget. For more information contact the Foundation office at 659-3549 or visit the website www.jcpsfoundation.org. The Foundation supports educational excellence in all Jefferson City Public Schools.
